Mukhriz Disappointed Daughter Son In Law Breached Mco
SLIM POLLS | Former Kedah menteri besar Mukhriz Mahathir admitted that it was his daughter and son-in-law who were recently arrested by the police for breaching the recovery movement control order (MCO) rules
Mukhriz (above) told the media that he was disappointed with the duo, who were arrested during a raid in a Kuala Lumpur pub. He said they deserved to be slapped with the maximum fine of RM1,000
"I already advised my family, during the recovery MCO, don't violate (the law), because we have to show a good example
"Of course I feel disappointed because they breached the law anyway despite the reminder. They deserved to be compounded," he said
Mukhriz was speaking to the media in Felda Besout in Perak today. He was present to campaign for independent candidate Amir Khusyairi Mohamad Tanusi for the Slim by-election
Polling day is set for Aug 29
Mukhriz also thanked the Kuala Lumpur police for taking stern and fair action against his daughter and son-in-law, as well as 27 others
"They were not given a discount. Had the police given a discount, maybe Tun (Dr Mahathir Mohamad) and I would be accused of interfering with the police, as well as accused of being given special treatment
"At the same time, we are also grateful that they were not given a higher compound as that would be persecution," he added
On Aug 23, the police had raided a pub in Taman Tun Dr Ismail around 1.20 am. All 29 patrons including the duo were slapped with a RM1,000 compound each
The investigations also revealed that the premise was operating without a valid business licence
The Jerlun MP added that his response to the incident was based on the statement issued by the police and that he would not entertain any other version
Mukhriz also said he believed the incident would not affect Amir's chances in the coming by-election
"I think (the incident) has nothing to do (with the campaign). If we were to raise consequences, there are so many issues out there which could hurt the chances of the BN candidate," he said
Amir is contesting against Mohd Aziz Zaidi. The other independent candidate is a former teacher S Santharasekaran
Earlier on the stage, Mukhriz's father Dr Mahathir Mohamad, in his speech to the locals, appealed to them to vote for Amir
He also took the opportunity to remind Amir to sincerely serve the people if he won and never be bought over with money
"Please promise, you are here not because of money. If BN offers RM5 million, (tell them), cannot
"He (Amir) is chosen to serve the people," he said. - Mkini
