Ramkarpal Reiterates That Dr M Cannot Be Trusted To Lead Country Again

GEORGE TOWN: Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh (pic) stands by a recent statement where he made it clear that former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad cannot be trusted to lead the country again.
The DAP lawmaker said he stood by his Facebook post on Oct 20 which was picked up by an online portal.
In his post, Ramkarpal said he regretted working with Dr Mahathir, who was to blame for the present political situation in the country.
"Today, you say you want to 'save the country', but you are the last person who can," he was quoted by the portal as saying.
In another scathing attack against Dr Mahathir, Ramkarpal said: "He lied about passing the baton to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and says today that he (Anwar) is wrong for the country.
"Today, he is hell-bent on a government without Anwar, which begs the question: Why did you lie in the past, promising him the throne?"
Ramkarpal said the post was his personal view, and that it had nothing to do with the DAP.
"I haven't met any top party leaders since speaking out against Dr Mahathir," said Ramkarpal when contacted on Thursday (Oct 22).
"I would not like to add anything further to the earlier statement which was reported," he said.
Penang DAP vice-chairman Dr P. Ramasamy, who is also Penang Deputy Chief Minister ll, said Ramkarpal was entitled to his views, which should be respected.
"I, too, have spoken against Dr Mahathir in the past and still hold such views, although it's a personal one and not the party's stance," he said.
DAP vice-chairmen Chow Kon Yeow and Gobind Singh could not be reached for comment on the issue. - Star
