Rameli Musa S Money Split Pkr In 2002
Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail did not deny that millions were coming into the party. But her reply to this allegation was that the PKR Youth leaders need to differentiate between money donated to the party and money donated to Anwar Ibrahim’s family.
THE CORRIDORS OF POWER
Raja Petra Kamarudin
In October 2002, PKR (at that time called PKN or Parti Keadilan Nasional) held its second AGM in Sungai Petani, Kedah. Johari Abdul was in charge of organising the AGM while I was in charge of the vote counting.
During that AGM an incident erupted that split the party, which eventually triggered mass resignations from the party. Some of you probably remember ‘The Dirty Dozen’ — the 12 PKR Youth leaders who resigned from the party together with the PKR Information Chief, Ruslan Kassim.
Now, what triggered the crisis at the 2002 AGM and why did many of the PKR members and leaders resign after that (some on the day of the AGM itself)?
Wan Azizah admitted she received millions but she said it was meant for the family and not for the party
Hanafiah Man, on behalf of PKR Youth, took the rostrum and whacked the party leadership. He accused the ‘top leaders’ of the party of receiving millions from donors but the money was being kept by just a small handful of people and was not being shared with the rest of the party leaders.
Those in PKR Youth are suffering, Hanafiah said, but those at the top are enjoying a life of luxury and opulence. Why are those at the bottom not being assisted financially when so much money is coming into the party?
Hanafiah, on behalf of PKR Youth, was talking about the millions that Rameli Musa and Robert Kuok were donating to the party. Millions were being received but not a single cent was being passed down to those in PKR Youth.
Rameli not only gave Anwar and family millions but he financially supported many other PKR leaders as well
Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail did not deny that millions were coming into the party. But her reply to this allegation was that the PKR Youth leaders need to differentiate between money donated to the party and money donated to Anwar Ibrahim’s family.
The millions donated by Rameli Musa and Robert Kuok was specifically donated to the family and not to the party. And that is why Wan Azizah cannot give it to PKR Youth.
This reply angered those in PKR Youth and soon after that many left the party.
Ruslan Kassim and 12 PKR Youth leaders left the party because Wan Azizah refused to share the millions she received from Rameli Musa and Robert Kuok
When the party was first launched on 4th April 1999, more than 1,000 Reformasi activists were at the launch in the Renaissance Kuala Lumpur Hotel. By 2002, most of these 1,000 had left the party in disgust regarding what they regarded as abuse of funds that donors had given the party.
Rameli Musa and Robert Kuok were just two of the biggest donors to the party. There were others, of course (Malays, Chinese, Indians and Arabs). And Rameli also gave money to many of the other PKR leaders, not just to Anwar and family. Zahid Md Arip, Ruslan Kassim, Ezam Mohd Nor, etc., all received a lot of money from Rameli Musa.
Robert Kuok was another donor who gave Anwar’s family millions
PKR is still around today because the party was being propped up with money from Rameli Musa and Robert Kuok.
I thought I would reveal what Rafizi Ramli left out in his story regarding Rameli Musa. As they say, sharing is caring.
