Rafizi Pkr Pas Have One Thing In Common
Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli has drawn attention to what he describes as a striking similarity between the PKR and PAS leaderships when faced with criticism.
ADSIn a statement today, he said that despite their political differences, both parties appear to employ identical defensive tactics when their positions are challenged.
The former economy minister noted that the PKR leadership becomes angry when presented with alternative viewpoints, whilst PAS members tend to mount collective attacks against those questioning their shifting stances.
“Everyone is dissatisfied with me now. Those in PKR leadership… when I gave my views, many got angry.
“The secretary-general, Fuziah Salleh, even issued a memo saying that when we raise judicial issues, it’s tantamount to losing confidence in the prime minister,” Rafizi said.

PKR secretary-general Fuziah SallehHowever, he emphasised that beneath these different approaches lies a common response pattern that reveals itself when either party faces sustained criticism over their policies or positions.
“But on this matter, those in PKR and PAS actually have one thing in common. They’ll bring up why I didn’t object when I was in government.
“I’m certain the PAS leadership has the same answer as I do, because they’ve faced the same situation when they were in government before.
“The difference between me and PAS is this: although I was asked to remain in cabinet, when I felt there was no longer compatibility or my views couldn’t be considered by the prime minister, I resigned from my position,” he said.
‘PAS stuck to PN govt, unlike me’
Rafizi said that PAS, however, is “slightly different” in this matter, as members of the party remained with the Perikatan Nasional government, even when it clashed with the party’s principles.

“I’m sure PAS had internal discussions, voiced concerns, and objected within Muhyiddin Yassin’s cabinet. Similarly, when there were issues I disagreed with, I certainly expressed them to the prime minister or raised them in the cabinet.
“Although they shout anti-gambling slogans outside and want to uphold Islamic principles, after voicing concerns inside, they still remained until the end.
ADS“Even when the lottery increased threefold, it didn’t matter as long as they could remain ministers,” Rafizi said, launching a pointed barb at the Islamist party.
He was referencing the former PN government’s decision to restore the number of special draws to 22 per calendar year in 2021, reverting to the previous BN government’s policy.
In doing so, PN reversed the Pakatan Harapan administration’s decision to reduce the number of special lottery draws from 2019.

The Harapan federal administration had reduced the number of annual special draws from 22 to 11 in 2019, and once again from 11 to eight. This was on top of three regular draws a week.
On Dec 5, 2022, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced that number forecast companies would be required to revert to just eight special lottery draws per calendar year, effective Jan 1, 2023.
“That’s why, for me, the real test of a leader isn’t how vocal they are when facing opponents. The real test is their consistency in criticising friends within the party and government.
“Because criticising friends is harder than criticising enemies,” Rafizi added. - Mkini
