Puad Pkr Mps Revolt Against Anwar Would Outclass Pas Street Rallies
Umno supreme council member Puad Zarkashi has derided PAS rallies as ineffective, suggesting that parliamentary revolt against Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim would carry greater weight.
In a Facebook post today, he contended that Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli and his band of MPs withdrawing support would be more potent against Anwar.
Puad, who is former Special Affairs Department (Jasa) strategic communications director, said that street demonstrations are like “opium” to PAS, but it has no effect.
“PAS expects 300,000 people to attend the ‘Himpunan Turun Anwar’ demonstration on July 26. I’m confident this can be achieved because demonstrations are like opium to PAS supporters. They love demonstrating.
ADS“Moreover, PAS members are fanatical and devoted to party directives. A mere 300,000 is peanuts to PAS. But can the ‘turun Anwar’ (step down Anwar) objective be achieved? Certainly not.
“It would be more effective if Rafizi and his gang of nine withdrew their support for Anwar. The impact would be greater if they brought a confidence motion to Parliament compared to a demonstration of 300,000 PAS members,” Puad said.

Former PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli (front row, centre) and other PKR MPs during a press conference on July 7, highlighting alleged judicial interferenceHe said this was because PAS would not dare bring a vote of no confidence to Parliament, and even if it did, Umno would not support it.
“Umno is committed to defending the existing government for the sake of the people and national stability.
“Therefore, the ‘Turun Anwar’ demonstration on July 26 is merely a show of PAS’ strength. Its impact is minimal, what more without comprehensive civil society participation,” Puad added.
On Monday, Perikatan Nasional Youth chief Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden said that the opposition coalition is now targeting 300,000 people to join the rally, which will be held in Kuala Lumpur, an increase from the previously targeted 50,000.
He reportedly said that the increase was based on feedback from coalition party members and the public who have committed to attending the gathering.
On July 15, the Putrajaya PKR division, led by division head Sharif Jeev Abdullah, lodged a police report against the planned rally. - Mkini
