Rafizi Macc Probing My Assets Is Like Investigating Popular Nasi Lemak Seller
GE15 | PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli said he welcomes an MACC investigation into his asset declaration after NGO Pertubuhan Jalinan Perpaduan Malaysia lodged a report against him yesterday.
In particular, the NGO’s president Syed Mohammad Imran Syed Abdul Aziz wanted MACC to look into Rafizi’s holdings in his company, Invoke Solutions Sdn Bhd, which was listed as being worth RM16.7 million.
However, Rafizi said, it would be a waste of the MACC’s time and effort as the issue would not be under the purview of the agency, according to the MACC Act.
“I’m more than happy if the MACC wants to investigate, it’s just that it would be a waste of their time,” Rafizi said in a press conference at the PKR headquarters today.
He explained that a corruption offence under the MACC Act is something that involves someone in a public office or in a corporation that abused the trust given to them for the purposes of enriching themselves.
“It’s my company, those are my shares, it does not involve any contractors or government contract or government officers.
“So it’s almost like the MACC has to go investigate the mak cik selling nasi lemak because her nasi lemak is popular… I am entertained, seriously,” he said.
Assets on paper, no cash in hand
Rafizi said he has explained this matter multiple times but most likely Syed Mohammad does not understand how shares work, he quipped.
The 16.7 million assets he has in Invoke are “on paper”, as in that is the current value of the shares he owns in the company.
It does not mean he has that RM16.7 million in his bank account, Rafizi said.
“So, the question of where this (total assets of) RM18.85 million comes from does not arise because there is no such money. The money is from the company. The money I have in the bank is about RM63,000 and I have about RM1 million in my EPF, that’s it,” Rafizi said.
Thus, he does not mind an investigation from MACC into his assets, he said, but it’s a waste of their time especially when there are bigger issues for the anti-graft agency to look into.
“We have many cases that need to be investigated so if the MACC suddenly comes full force to investigate me, obviously they will become a national joke.
“So, I am willing if MACC wants to investigate me, no problem. I can treat them to nasi lemak, but all they will find is just about RM63,000 in my bank account,” Rafizi said.
Rafizi had declared his assets ahead of his contest in the Pandan parliamentary constituency, followed by the rest of PKR’s candidates in GE15.
The PKR deputy president said this was to foster the public’s trust in their elected representatives again. - Mkini
