(Bernama pic)PETALING JAYA: Putrajaya will soon be home to a new sports complex, aimed at enhancing athlete development and strengthening the national sports ecosystem, says federal territories minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa
The complex would focus on high-performance sports and support both national and federal territories athletes.
She said the proposal to build the complex was received positively by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and that discussions with stakeholders are still ongoing, Bernama reported.
The proposed facilities are currently being fine-tuned in collaboration with key stakeholders in the sports industry.
“We started considering it after we returned from the Malaysia Games (Sukma) in Sarawak where the performance of the federal territories athletes was very encouraging,” she said.
“We will sit down with the public-private partnership unit under the Prime Minister’s Department and talk further on the matter,” she said.
Earlier, Zaliha said she had instructed the Federal Territories Sports Council to introduce a star ranking system for sports bodies to ensure that they are managed well.
The ranking system will take into account criteria such as document management and governance, efficient financial management, and achievements at both the national and international levels.
Zaliha expressed hope that the ranking system would encourage sports bodies to become more competitive and disciplined, ensuring the best governance and maintaining excellent performance in the federal territories. - FMT
