(Bernama pic)PETALING JAYA: Sacked Kedah Amanah chairman Phahrolrazi Zawawi has asked Pakatan Harapan to allow Amanah to contest the Jerai parliamentary seat as the Malay-majority electorate will have difficulty accepting a DAP candidate.
His plea came a day after DAP announced that its Kedah deputy chairman Zulhazmi Shariff would contest the seat, previously won by PAS.
Phahrolrazi said DAP was generally unpopular among Malay voters in Kedah despite the party having done its best to highlight its good deeds to the Muslim community in Penang.
“We have tried to explain many positive things the DAP-led Penang government has done for the Malay community such as giving aid to tahfiz schools but we were not successful in changing the negative perception of the party,” he told a press conference.

He also said PH should not be using Jerai as a “testing” ground by placing a DAP candidate in a Malay-majority area as the focus of this election should be winning the targeted seats in the state.
“We want to make sure PH wins (these seats in Kedah) and ensure that Anwar Ibrahim becomes the next prime minister. That is important,” he added.
The press conference was called by Phahrolrazi after Amanah announced that he had been dismissed from the party.
Amanah communications director Khalid Samad said he was sacked as the party could not accept his act of calling on Kedah Amanah members to boycott the polls.
Khalid said party leaders can have differences of opinion when it comes to party strategies and seat allocation.
However, they should not be calling for other party leaders and members to boycott the general election, which is akin to sabotage. - FMT
