Protesters To Rally At Macc Hq Over Inaction On Sabah Scandal Sharks
A protest will be held outside the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya over the graftbuster's lack of action against the remaining politicians who were implicated in the Sabah corruption scandal.
Pro-Perikatan Nasional activist Syarul Ema Rena Abu Samah said the rally, dubbed "Catch the Sharks", will be held on Nov 14 at 8pm.
Syarul (above), who is also known as Ratu Naga, said participants will be wearing black clothing.
"The corruption scandal was exposed through video recordings that clearly show discussions and confessions of corruption.
"However, only two assemblypersons who were labelled as ‘small fish’ have been charged in court.
“What about the remaining ‘sharks’ who have high positions in Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), who were also involved in the corruption activities?" she asked in a statement last night.
On June 30, incumbent Tanjung Batu assemblyperson Andi Suryady Bandy and incumbent Sindumin assemblyperson Yusof Yacob pleaded not guilty to corruption charges involving bribes allegedly linked to mineral prospecting licences in the state.
Andi - who is also Kalabakan MP - was charged with receiving RM150,000 in cash from businessperson Albert Tei in exchange for facilitating a prospecting licence application for Syarikat Sinaran Hayat Sdn Bhd.

Yusof, who is also Qhazanah Sabah chairperson, was charged with receiving RM200,000 in cash from Tei at the Hilton Hotel’s rooftop bar in Kota Kinabalu on March 6, 2023. The bribe was allegedly meant to help process a prospecting licence for Syarikat Nusa Kini Sdn Bhd.
Critics have questioned why only two out of 15 politicians implicated in the scandal have been charged, contemplating whether it was because the duo do not hold any positions in GRS.
Whistleblower to join protest
Separately, Tei backed the protest, saying he too will be in attendance.
"I call on more people to join the rally so that we can deliver a clear message to MACC and the Madani government to immediately arrest and charge in court the remaining ‘sharks’ involved in the Sabah corruption scandal," he said in a statement today.
The businessperson was charged alongside Andi and Yusof with two counts of offering bribes to the politicians.
Tei also claimed that certain parties are making efforts to oppress and burden him so that he halts his demands for justice.

Businessperson Albert TeiOn Oct 23, the Sabah immigration authority barred Tei for the second time from entering the state, a day before he was scheduled to appear at the Kota Kinabalu Session Court for his corruption case.
Tei and the Sabah Immigration Department have given conflicting accounts of what had transpired that led to the whistleblower in the mining licence scandal being turned away.
According to Tei, he was served with an entry refusal notice purportedly under the instruction of caretaker chief minister Hajiji Noor.
However, immigration said Tei was turned away because he allegedly told officers that he came to Sabah for sightseeing and to meet friends.
The first time Tei was stopped upon arrival at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport was on Sept 22. - Mkini
