Prosecution To Call 1mdb Money Laundering Io Tomorrow
1MDB TRIAL | The prosecution is expected to call 1MDB investigating officer Foo Wei Min to testify tomorrow for the corruption trial of former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak linked to RM2.28 billion of funds from the troubled Malaysian sovereign wealth fund.
Deputy public prosecutor Kamal Baharin Omar informed the Kuala Lumpur High Court this afternoon about prosecutors’ intent to call the key witness involved in the investigation into the alleged money laundering that took place at 1MDB.
It is understood that the witness in question is Foo, whose findings from the probe since 2018 have been utilised for both the present ongoing criminal trial against Najib as well as a separate failed legal bid to seize 1MDB-linked assets from the former finance minister.
Foo is expected to take the witness stand during the trial before judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah.
The afternoon session tomorrow of the 1MDB trial is set to see Najib’s legal team resume its cross-examination of Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) analyst Adam Ariff Mohd Roslan, who previously testified on the money trail involving RM2.28 billion from 1MDB that allegedly went into the accused’s account between 2011 and 2014.
Najib is on trial over four counts of abuse of power and 21 counts of money laundering involving RM2.28 billion from 1MDB, a sovereign wealth fund fully owned by the Minister of Finance Incorporated (MOF Inc).
For the four abuse of power charges, the former Pekan MP is alleged to have committed the offences at AmIslamic Bank Bhd’s Jalan Raja Chulan branch in Bukit Ceylon, Kuala Lumpur, between Feb 24, 2011, and Dec 19, 2014.
On the 21 money laundering counts, the accused is purported to have committed the offences at the same bank between March 22, 2013, and Aug 30, 2013. - Mkini
