Prasarana Looking To Compensate Affected Passengers For Lrt Disruptions
Rapid KL has shut down 16 stations along the Kelana Jaya LRT line for a week from today.PETALING JAYA: Prasarana is looking into how it can compensate and refund passengers who have been affected by the disruptions along the Kelana Jaya LRT line.
Rapid KL has shut down 16 stations along the Kelana Jaya LRT line for a week from today, this after they were shut down yesterday after an automatic train control (ATC) system malfunction was detected. The Kelana Jaya LRT line was also affected by the same problem on Monday, which disrupted regular service.
“We apologise to all commuters who have been affected,” said Prasarana president cum group chief executive officer Azharuddin Mat Sah at a press conference.
“Definitely. We will discuss it and come back to the media about it,” he said when asked whether Rapid Rail will provide any compensation or refund to the passengers, especially those who had purchased the monthly My50 passes.
Rapid Rail is the Prasarana subsidiary which manages and operates the LRT network and the KL Monorail.
Azharuddin said the stations were shut down due to an ATC system fault.
However, he said they have yet to determine the root cause of the ATC system fault, adding that this was why the stations will be closed for a week.
“We have invited the Thales Group original equipment manufacturer (OEM) experts from Canada to come to Malaysia to find a short- and long-term solution,” he said.
Azharuddin also said it was about time that the Kelana Jaya LRT line was upgraded, adding that Prasarana already had plans for this.
“The Kelana Jaya LRT line has been operating for nearly 25 years, (so) it is an ageing system which needs replacements for all its (mechanical) parts.” - FMT
