Prasarana Committed To Fair Resolution For Lrt Collision Victims

The LRT collision on the Kelana Jaya line in May 2021 left 213 injured, 47 of them seriously.PETALING JAYA: Prasarana Malaysia Bhd says it is committed to a fair resolution for passengers involved in an LRT collision three years ago, following calls for a suit against the public transport operator to be settled out of court.
In a statement, Prasarana said it had been “actively exploring a fair resolution” with those involved through its insurer, Allianz General Insurance Company Bhd.
“Prasarana wishes to reiterate its continued readiness to explore a fair resolution of matters and is taking steps to engage in discussions with those involved.”
Prasarana said right after the collision, it had reached out to all the passengers involved and offered special financial assistance and counselling.
The financial assistance extended included medical expenses and follow-up treatment for the passengers, it said.
“Of the passengers affected, 90 individuals received financial assistance and several claims had since been amicably resolved.”

Earlier today, former transport minister Wee Ka Siong urged the government to “do the humane thing” and settle the lawsuit brought by a victim of the LRT collision in Kuala Lumpur.
Wee said Putrajaya should not make Florence Lee suffer further by incurring another four years of legal bills while waiting for the case to start in 2028.
Lee, who filed the suit last year against Prasarana and Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd, is seeking to recover RM113,524.08 in special damages, including RM84,372.58 in medical, physiotherapy and rehabilitation expenses, as well as general, aggravated and exemplary damages as assessed by the court.
The 57-year-old said the crash was due to the defendants’ negligence and a breach of statutory duty.
Earlier today, FMT reported that the trial would commence on Jan 10, 2028. - FMT
