Poultry Slaughterhouse Shut Down In Batu Caves

A total of four premises were inspected, with one immediately shut down due to poor hygiene standards. — DBKL pic.KUALA LUMPUR: A joint operation was carried out to inspect poultry slaughterhouses and food processing plants at Taman Perindustrian IKS and Spring Crest Industrial Park in Batu Caves here yesterday.
The integrated operation, which began at 2am, involved personnel from the Food and Water Control Unit of the Health and Environment Department, Kuala Lumpur City Hall.
A total of four premises were inspected, with one immediately shut down due to poor hygiene standards.
"The floor, walls, and overall hygiene conditions were found to be unsatisfactory," a statement read.
Officials also found that "no grease trap was installed, and waste was discharged directly into the public drain."
The operator had also failed to provide key documents, including business licences, typhoid vaccination records, training certificates, and pest control reports.
The premises was ordered to shut down immediately under Section 11 of the Food Act 1983.
Another factory was found to be non-operational after its licence was revoked by the Licensing and Business Development Department.
Meanwhile, an inspected poultry slaughterhouse met the required health standards, as it had a water treatment plant for waste management, operators in proper attire, and trained slaughter personnel certified by Jakim
Authorities provided the owner with health education on hygiene requirements.
A separate packaging facility was found to be in satisfactory condition, with all operators having completed typhoid vaccinations and food handling courses.
Officials provided additional health education to the premises owner.
Authorities confirmed that "regular and integrated inspections of such premises will continue to be conducted periodically." - NST
