Port Dickson School Security Guards Get 3 Months Back Pay
It is learnt that school security guards from Port Dickson - who were previously unpaid for three months - have finally received their back pay from employer Wira Corps Security (M) Sdn Bhd yesterday.
This comes after the guards appealed numerous times to their employer, the Port Dickson District Education Office, and several politicians including Port Dickson MP Anwar Ibrahim and Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun.
A representative of the group, known as Ramli, said the three months’ worth of salaries paid was according to the company’s calculation.
All guards were said to have received RM6,100 - which included instances if they worked overtime (OT) or if they took leave.
However, Ramli noted the group has no information about their Employees Provident Fund (EPF) contributions as they have not received their payslips.
“On the EPF contributions, we have not gotten any information because they have not sent us the payslip.
“They didn't send it for three months so to say anything (on that), we need to wait for the payslip they are sending,” he said.
The group of school security guards were previously promised their overdue wages on April 20, 2022.
At the time, there were considering protesting at the Education Ministry should Wira Corps Security fail to pay them.
Jaringan Pekerja Kontrak Kerajaan (JPKK) coordinator Sivaranjani Manickam previously tweeted on April 9 that the issue arose after the security company was uncooperative, despite the Education Ministry's release of the overdue payment cheques.
“KPM (Education Ministry) said they released cheque but company doesn't want to do claims.
“Company say they ‘pajak’ (pawned off) their licence under another company and that company charging more interest rate.
If claim cheque, then money goes to that company, internal issues, the workers will be victims,” she said.
Another case today - security guards from PD not paid 3 months salary.. They came all the way from PD to the security company at Selayang to ask when they gonna pay! New promise to pay in 2 weeks time! Workers gonna come to @KemPendidikan if the company not pay their salary! pic.twitter.com/yb1TGYJkkk
