Pakatan Harapan unveiled its manifesto for the Malacca polls today, the same day BN released its own pledges.
A recurring theme in both manifestos has been political stability after the state was dragged into snap polls amid the Covid-19 pandemic due to political infighting.
Both Harapan and BN are promising equal funding for all elected representatives, including opposition ones.
BN controversially proposed amending the state constitution to appoint an additional assemblyperson to bolster the winning coalition's majority but Harapan has taken a more conservative route, proposing an anti-party-hopping enactment.
In the manifesto unveiled by the coalition's top leadership including Harapan chairperson Anwar Ibrahim, the coalition also promised to recognise the state opposition leader and accord him or her a similar status as an executive councillor.
Harapan will also seek for all Malacca assemblypersons to declare their assets and adopt open tenders as a core for the state's procurement process.
The fundamentals of Harapan's manifesto and BN's are quite similar, with a focus on helping people to overcome the pandemic and reviving the state's tourism.
This includes setting up special funds for Covid-19 testing and providing aid to families who have lost members to the virus.
It is also looking to introduce a card to provide RM300 subsidy for the bottom 50 percent of income earners, similar to a policy in Selangor.
Harapan also promised dedicated schemes to assist various target groups, including children, students, senior citizens, and single parents.
They include cash, food, and housing aid.
The coalition also expressed its commitment to spurring digitisation in the state, cutting taxes for farmers, providing job opportunities, improving the Malacca International Airport, and promoting an international festival to attract tourists.
Harapan claimed that in its short tenure of 22 months as the Malacca government in 2018 to 2020, it fulfilled 73 percent of its previous campaign pledges.
This includes delivering 100 free homes to the needy, providing free bus rides, free parking on weekends, roping in AirAsia to operate at the state's airport, and completing the construction of long-delayed flyovers in the state.
Today is the third day of campaigning for the Malacca polls. Voters will decide on Nov 20. - Mkini
