Police To Investigate Sanusi Over Insulting Remark On Selangor Ruler

Police have launched an investigation against Kedah caretaker Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor over his recent remarks that allegedly insulted the Selangor sultan.
This is according to Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Hussain, who told a press conference today that politicians should refrain from touching on 3Rs (race, religion, royalty) to avoid stoking tension, especially in the run-up to the state elections.
"Regarding the case of Kedah menteri besar, we opened an investigation paper under the 3R case yesterday," he said at Bukit Aman in Kuala Lumpur.
Razarudin (above) was referring to Sanusi's remark at a recent ceramah, where he allegedly insulted Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah in choosing the state's menteri besar.
During the video of the speech, which has gone viral on social media, Sanusi can be seen comparing the Kedah sultan and his Selangor counterpart, whom he alleged had chosen a "lousy" menteri besar.
Special task force
The top cop told reporters that Sanusi's case is being investigated by a police special task force that focuses on 3R cases.
Razarudin said police have noticed an increase in incidents involving 3Rs as the six state elections get closer.
This, he stressed, is dangerous especially when such sensitive issues are touched by influential figures.

"For example, if I as a leader were to give fiery speeches and incite people, this can rile up my supporters and can cause security issues during the election.
"This is why it is dangerous when people play with issues involving the 3Rs," Razarudin said.
Be respectful
Razarudin also suggested that those who insulted the Malay rulers should apologise to them.
Delivering speeches that humiliate or slander others should not happen at all, he added.
"If it were me, if I were the one who said such a thing that is insulting to the royal institution, I would seek an audience with the ruler to apologise.
"We have to be respectful to the royal institution," he said.
On 3R-related cases, Razarudin said police have opened 61 investigation papers since March 27.
These include cases involving high-profile individuals such as PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, DAP chairperson Lim Guan Eng, and former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
According to the IGP, police found that some of the speeches being investigated had indeed contained elements that violate the law.
"Some of the investigation papers have been forwarded to the Attorney-General's Chambers," he said. - Mkini
