Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said the video showed a man giving a racist-laced speech at an indoor premises.
In the speech, the man stated that a rally would be held on Dec 8.
"Checks found that the video was recorded in 2018 during the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD) issue.
"The gathering in question is an anti-ICERD assembly that took place on Dec 8, 2018 at Dataran Merdeka," he said in a statement today.
Acryl Sani said the video has been re-posted by irresponsible parties with the aim of causing public annoyance and confusion as if though a rally is being planned this Dec 8.
"Until now, there is no information involving the gathering by any quarters on the date in question as described.
"Police reiterate their commitment in guaranteeing public safety and for the purpose of public safety, strict action will be taken if any party that is found holding any gathering or parade in an open place that may threaten public order," he said.
He said police also advised members of the public not to spread or share the said video if they received it.
"Any individual found spreading the video involved can face action in accordance with Section 505(b) of the Penal Code - making statements with intent likely to cause, fear or alarm to the public and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 - inappropriate use of network facilities or applications service," he said.- NST
