Pointless Perlis Amanah Delegate Calls For J Kom S Dissolution
A Perlis Amanah delegate has echoed calls for the Community Communications Department (J-Kom) to be dissolved for failing to meet its objectives.
Addressing attendees at the Amanah National Convention 2025 in Shah Alam today, delegate Ya’akub Abu Seman asserted that failures in communication have caused the people to lose out on government aid.
“I see that all subsidies, all assistance (from the government) amounting to thousands of ringgit per hectare for farmers - they don’t even get to enjoy (such benefits).
“Firstly, because of the failure of our media, the failure of our ministries’ media.
ADS“We even have J-Kom, (but) I suggest we just dissolve J-Kom - it’s completely useless as J-Kom does not help us convey any government policies,” Ya’akub claimed.
J-Kom, which is currently headed by Ismail Yusop as its director-general, is a department under the Communications Ministry.

J-Kom director-general Ismail YusopLast year, Ismail, who was then J-Kom’s deputy director-general, courted backlash over his claims that a new plot, dubbed the Dubai Move, was in the works to topple Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and his administration.
In light of the exposé, Umno supreme council member Puad Zarkashi urged J-Kom to be “thoroughly overhauled, have a total rebranding, and be led by those more competent”.
Puad formerly served as the Special Affairs Department (Jasa) director-general before the department’s disbandment in 2020 and subsequent rebranding to J-Kom.
Opposition leaders had also backed calls for J-Kom to be overhauled, or even dissolved, alleging that the department serves no other purpose than to act as a government propaganda tool.
‘Subsidies benefit landowners, not farmers’
Meanwhile, Ya’akub also touched on claims that subsidies for farmers do not actually reach the targeted groups, but instead benefit landowners.

“Why don’t the people feel the impact of what the government gives them? The subsidies provided by the government do not reach the farmers.
“For example, fertiliser subsidies and harvest support do not reach the farmers working the fields because they are just tenants, and only the landowners benefit from the subsidies.
“Wealthy landowners collect the rental income and even sell the subsidised items (like fertiliser) provided by the government,” alleged the Perlis Amanah vice-chairperson.
He also urged lazy leaders to be sidelined and prevented from acting as “yes men” to their superiors.
“To change the country, it is not enough with Twitter (X) rhetoric or 30-second videos. Change comes when there is courage to give feedback, not by just being a ‘yes man’ to the leader.
“If a policy is wrong, we correct it; if the system is weak, we strengthen it; if a leader is lazy, we’ll stop them - don’t wait until it goes viral,” Ya’akub warned. - Mkini
