Poems And Toilets Indian Leaders Lock Horns Over Perak Temple Issue
Tapah MIC division chief S Krishna Rao has come to party deputy president M Saravanan's defence as Indian leaders trade barbs over issues affecting the community.
In particular, shots have been fired over the announcement by Perak’s executive councillor for human resources, health, Indian affairs and national integration, A Sivanesan, regarding a five-year moratorium on the construction of Hindu temples on government land.
Saravanan opted to pen a Tamil poem criticising Sivanesan as a “needle” which has betrayed the Indian community, with the Tapah MP further accusing the DAP assemblyperson of only catering to the community for the sake of votes.
Not holding his tongue in his response, Sivanesan reportedly suggested that Saravanan “flush his dirty poem into the toilet.”
According to a report by Harapan Daily, he also claimed that MIC had failed to address the issue of mushrooming Hindu temples when the party was in power.
He highlighted that there are temples built in government clinics, as well as one in the Tapah Hospital under Saravanan’s constituency.

Perak exco A SivanesanHe also clarified that the moratorium is linked with how there are sufficient Hindu temples in Perak.
However, individuals who wish to build temples on private property will be allowed to do so after receiving approval from the local council.
Fight since 2021
In a statement today, Krishna said Saravanan has been fighting for the temple land in the Tapah Hospital to be gazetted since he was a deputy minister in 2021.
“(Saravanan) has on numerous occasions reminded subsequent health ministers of the plight of the temple and pushed for the ministry to come to a decision on the issue.
“As a state exco, Sivanesan should investigate an issue thoroughly before blurting claims and accusations. I am indeed surprised and flabbergasted by his lack of knowledge on the temple issue,” Krishna said.
He added that Sivanesan’s “language and arrogance speak volumes” regarding his capability and capacity to articulate issues and find solutions to them.

MIC deputy president and Tapah MP M Saravanan“Saravanan approached the issue in a very calm manner through a Tamil poem, and what he raised was valid.
“I am not surprised Sivanesan asked Saravanan’s poem to be flushed down the toilet as it shows that Sivanesan’s mind is a sewerage filled with filth,” Krishna said. - Mkini
