Pn Leader Dismiss Zaid S Calls For Hadi Muhyiddin To Step Down
“The situation remains the same. The inclination of Malay and young voters towards Pakatan Harapan (PH) is still significantly declining. It has never recovered”
(NST) – A Pas leader has dismissed suggestions for Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang and Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to step down as top leaders of Perikatan Nasional (PN) following the outcome of the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election.
Its ulama wing chief, Datuk Ahmad Yahaya, claimed that former law minister, Datuk Zaid Ibrahim, was trying to create a ‘self-destructive’ narrative when the latter made that suggestion.
Ahmad, who is also Pokok Sena Member of Parliament, said the May 11 by-election results are nothing for PN to worry about.
“What impact do the results of the recent by-elections have on the current political situation?
“The situation remains the same. The inclination of Malay and young voters towards Pakatan Harapan (PH) is still significantly declining. It has never recovered,” he told the New Straits Times.
Ahmad was referring to the analysis by Institut Darul Ehsan (IDE) on Saturday’s by-election, which concluded with PH retaining Kuala Kubu Baharu with a majority of 3,869 votes, in a four-cornered fight
The think-tank said PN still commanded support from Malay voters, with the opposition coalition winning 56 per cent of the Malay vote. IDE said PH, alongside its allies in the unity government, secured 42 per cent of the Malay vote.
“So, there is nothing to worry about. We do not evaluate based on narratives that our political foes are trying to create.
Selangor PN chief Datuk Seri Azmin Ali said both Muhyiddin and Hadi are the opposition’s pillars of political strength.
“They inspire us to move forward as a formidable force to face new challenges. Both are unifying figures,” he said.
Ahmad and Azmin were responding to the statement made by Zaid on the outcome of the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election.
On Sunday, Zaid called on Muhyiddin and Hadi to step down as PN chairman and deputy chairman respectively, following the opposition’s defeat in the by-election.
The defeat, said Zaid, was a lesson for PN, which he said had ‘nothing to offer’ during the by-election.
