Pn Finalising Recruitment Of Sidelined Umno Warlords
Perikatan Nasional (PN) is still in the process of finalising its recruitment of a group of “Umno warlords”, according to the coalition’s secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin.
The former home minister said an announcement would be made regarding the “10 warlords sidelined by Umno” joining PN when talks conclude.
“God willing, we are making plans and waiting for the right programme that we have planned to make the announcement,” Hamzah (above) added, without disclosing their identities.
Previously, Bersatu information chief Razali Idris said the 10 would join the coalition before the upcoming elections for six states.
“Yes, there are those who were sidelined by Umno. They voluntarily join one party (in PN) either PAS or Bersatu," he was quoted as stating.
On Saturday, it was announced that PAS had accepted former Umno stalwart Annuar Musa as a member.
PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin HassanPAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said numerous others have also applied to join PN parties and their names would be revealed from time to time.
What about Khairy?
In another development, Hamzah declined to comment on the possibility of former health minister Khairy Jamaluddin joining PN as well.
“On that, you’d have to ask (PN chairperson) Muhyiddin (Yassin),” he said when met at the Parliament lobby today.
Asked if Khairy, who has been sacked by Umno, would be contesting in the upcoming state elections, Hamzah responded with a smile.
In May, it was reported that Muhyiddin had offered Khairy a “high post” in the Bersatu supreme leadership council.
Former health minister Khairy JamaluddinOn Saturday, Khairy said he would meet with the Bersatu president over the issue this week.
The Malay-based Bersatu was formed by Muhyiddin and former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad in 2016 as an alternative to Umno after the pair crossed swords with the then-prime minister Najib Abdul Razak over the 1MDB scandal.
Bersatu was part of the Pakatan Harapan coalition until the infamous Sheraton Move political coup, which also witnessed Mahathir and Muhyiddin parting ways.
Following his obliteration and PN’s strong showing in the last general election, Mahathir has now decided to back the coalition against Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s government, which he claims does not effectively represent the Malays. - Mkini
