Pm To Propose Parliament Dissolution Date To Agong Umno
The Umno supreme council has decided that Parliament should be dissolved soon to pave way for the 15th general election to be held this year.
As such, party secretary-general Ahmad Maslan said Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob will be proposing the date for Parliament’s dissolution to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in line with Article 40(1) of the Federal Constitution.
“The meeting decision is based on Umno’s consistent stand since early on to return the mandate to the people, which had been delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, following the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan government because of their infighting,” Ahmad (above) said.
He was announcing the outcome of tonight’s Umno supreme council meeting in Kuala Lumpur, at a press conference at the party’s headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.
Meanwhile, Umno urged the government to immediately make public the report of the task force that investigated former attorney-general Tommy Thomas’ book ‘My Story: Justice in the Wilderness’.
“This is important for restoring the judiciary’s image and integrity, as well as the rule of law, with examples such as page 342 of the book that may be in violation of Section 32 of the Judicial Appointments Commission Act 2009,” Ahmad said.
The government had set up the task force in December last year to investigate Thomas’ book, which describes his term as attorney-general from 2018 to 2020.
Among others, he wrote about judicial appointments, executive interference in the judiciary, and selective prosecution.
The task force was led by former Sarawak legal adviser Fong Joo Chung.
Earlier today, Ismail Sabri directed enforcement agencies to conduct further investigations on Thomas’ supposed wrongdoings in relation to the allegations made in his book. - Mkini
