PKR Youth reminded Dr Mahathir Mohamad that he had served as prime minister for more than two decades because of the support from the Chinese and Indian communities.
"When the Chinese and Indians no longer support him, we are accused of not being loyal to the country,” said the wing’s leadership committee member M Sathasivam.
Earlier, PKR Youth lodged a police report against Mahathir, who became prime minister for a second time in 2018 also because of support from non-Malay voters after aligning with Pakatan Harapan, at the Travers police station in Kuala Lumpur this evening.
In the last general election, the former premier had failed to win the Malay votes in Langkawi, located in his home state of Kedah, resulting in him losing his deposit.
He has since joined hands with Perikatan Nasional, whose narrative is centred around race and religion.
Mahathir, who is no stranger to making controversial remarks, had courted backlash over his recent interview with an Indian TV station.
‘Stop making such remarks’
The 98-year-old politician claimed that Indian Malaysians still identified with their country of origin and are “not completely loyal” to Malaysia.
Meanwhile, Sathasivam called on Mahathir to stop making such comments.
“It gives the impression that the political situation in Malaysia is unpredictable and will frighten foreign investors,” he added, according to Bernama.
Sathasivam said that PKR Youth branches nationwide would be ordered to file police reports against Mahathir.
“I am confident that police will conduct a thorough investigation into these reports,” he added.
Yesterday, Mahathir, doubled down on his stand, telling critics to question the existence of race-based parties in Malaysia.
The former premier also said he was prepared to meet with National Unity Minister Aaron Ago Dagang, who had vowed not to compromise with those who create racial tension. - Mkini
