PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the party had yet to discuss the choice of its prime minister candidate if a motion of no-confidence is tabled against Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin at the Dewan Rakyat session in July
He said the last Pakatan Harapan presidential council meeting had touched only on its latest joint statement issued before the Dewan Rakyat sitting yesterday
"We have not discussed it. The government today is still Muhyiddin's government, so when the time comes then we will comment," Saifuddin told Malaysiakini when contacted today
He said this when asked whether PKR will once again propose former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad as prime minister if a motion of no-confidence against Muhyiddin is passed in Parliament
Intense speculation on the no-confidence motion during the Dewan Rakyat sitting ended with the sitting being earlier restricted to only the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's royal address
The Dewan Rakyat is, however, set to reconvene in July for 25 days, allowing opportunities for another attempt at challenging Muhyiddin's position
Commenting further, Saifuddin stressed that the last Harapan presidential council meeting held two days ago did not discuss the issue of a prime minister candidate
"What I can confirm, two days ago, Anwar chaired the meeting that was also attended by (DAP secretary-general) Lim Guan Eng, (Amanah president) Mohamad Sabu, (Bersatu chairperson) Mahathir, (Warisan president) Shafie Apdal and myself
"Our discussions did not reach there (a prime minister candidate)," he said
On Sunday, the Harapan presidential council together with Mahathir and Shafie in a joint statement stressed that they would continue to increase efforts towards returning the people's mandate and taking over the government
Following the failed attempt to table the motion of no-confidence, Anwar in an interview with Bloomberg Television said it remains "very unlikely" that the PN government - with 113 MPs in parliament - would be in power until the next general election. - - Mkini
