Pkr Eyes 12 Seats In Malacca Polls 4 More Than Ge14
PKR is eyeing to contest 12 seats in the upcoming Malacca snap polls, four more than it did during the 2018 general election, according to its state chief Halim Bachik.
"We will contest (all) eight state constituencies we did in the 14th general election. We (aim to) add additional four more seats from the six seats contested by Bersatu in 2018," he told Malaysiakini.
Halim (above) added that the party aims to win eight out of the 12 seats.
The six seats contested by Bersatu in 2018 were Ayer Limau, Lendu, Asahan, Paya Rumput, Telok Mas and Sungai Rambai.
The Malacca state government fell after four state lawmakers withdrew their support for the leadership of Chief Minister Sulaiman Md Ali.
The four were Idris Haron (BN-Sungai Udang), Nor Azman Hassan (BN-Pantai Kundor), Norhizam Hassan Baktee (Bebas-Pengkalan Batu) and Noor Effandi Ahmad (Bersatu-Telok Mas).
Following that, Malacca governor Mohd Ali Rustam announced the dissolution of the state legislative assembly, paving way for the Nov 20 state polls.
PKR's election machinery is ready
The Malacca state assembly has a total of 28 members.
Prior to the dissolution, the BN-led Malacca government was represented by 17 assemblypersons, comprising 14 from Umno, two from Bersatu and one BN-friendly Independent, while the opposition has 11 seats - seven from DAP, and two each from PKR and Amanah.
Meanwhile, Halim said the Malacca PKR's election machinery was ready for the polls.
"Basically, the PKR election machinery has long been ready to face GE15. To face this election, we just need to press the button to mobilise all the election machinery in all parts of Malacca," he added. - Mkini
