(Bernama pic)PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Harapan’s candidate for the Merotai seat, Ruji Ubi, has pledged to establish a haemodialysis centre in the constituency, to meet the growing demand for the service and reducing travel time for patients
Ruji said that patients from Kijang, Brumas and Umas must travel to Tawau for treatment and would be forced to leave as early as 4am to undergo treatment there.
“Then they have to repeat it on the third day,” Bernama quoted him as saying.
A trip to Tawau from these areas takes 42-90 minutes.
Ruji said he was looking into job creation and business opportunities for young people, for which he will work with agencies such as the labour department to host regular career fairs.
Ruji also proposed the establishment of recreational centres and a mini sports complex.
“Merotai currently has little more than a plantation field for this purpose, and realising this vision requires an assemblyman with the commitment and strong federal connections to secure the necessary funding.”
He also promised a series of improvements to public facilities, such as solar-powered street lights, construction of jetties, road repairs, improved drainage and resolving the constituency’s problems with water supplies.
Ruji said he wants to transform Merotai into a centre for civilisation and knowledge development, based on his consultations with local religious leaders.
Voting takes place on Nov 29. Ruji is in a four-cornered fight for the seat. - FMT
