Ph Bn Wins Two Thirds Majority In Penang
Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional, allies in the unity coalition, are believed to have secured power in Penang.GEORGE TOWN: A Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional coalition government is set to be formed in Penang, as unofficial tally shows they have garnered a two-thirds majority with 27 seats of the 40 state assembly seats.
Top leaders such as outgoing chief minister Chow Kon Yeow and former chief minister Lim Guan Eng won handsomely, while BN’s Reezal Merican Naina Merican pulled a surprise win in Bertam.
Penang Perikatan Nasional chief Dominic Lau lost in Bayan Lepas in a straight fight with PH’s Azrul Mahathir Aziz.
Penang PH chairman Chow Kon Yeow is expected to be sworn in as chief minister for a second term tomorrow. He told reporters: “Tomorrow we will swear in a new chief minister as decided by the leadership, I will lead as CM in the swearing-in.”
He also gave reporters a tally of seats won by the unity coalition partners.
DAP retained all 19 seats contested and previously won; PKR retained six and lost in seven seats; Amanah lost one seat, while BN won two of the six seats contested.
