Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said police would also be on alert to ensure the safety of all Petronas facilities.
"An officer at Petronas received a few threats from an unknown individual via SMS text messages.
"After a few times receiving those threats, the officer lodged a police report and we have advised Petronas to tighten security at their facilities," he told reporters here today.
Khalid, however, did not disclose the type of threats the oil and gas officer received.
"The police, from all contingents, will assist in ensuring that Petronas facilities are properly secured and that national safety is upheld," he said after officiating the Blood Donation Drive held in conjunction with the 218th Police Day 2025.
Yesterday, the National Security Council (NSC) ordered all Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) facilities in Bintulu, Sarawak, to immediately tighten security following a reported security threat.
In a statement yesterday, the NSC said the move was taken to enable security forces and relevant agencies to carry out immediate investigations into the threat.
However, in a statement yesterday, Petronas said there has been no impact to Petronas' LNG operations and no disruption to supply at its facility in Bintulu, Sarawak. - NST
