Perak Mca Alcohol Sale Already Banned In Manjoi Beware Of Expansion
Perak MCA has criticised state government leaders, particularly training its guns on those from DAP, over the local government’s plans to expand restrictions on alcohol sales in Ipoh.
Its information chief, Chung Kok Heung, questioned why DAP and PKR leaders denied the restrictions despite confirmation from Ipoh mayor Rumaizi Baharin.
"How much longer will DAP and PKR continue to deceive the public?
"Is this ignorance or a deliberate attempt to hide the issue to mislead the people?" Chung said in a statement today.

Perak MCA info chief Chung Kok HeungThis came after Ipoh city councillor Wong Kar Keat from DAP and state exco Sandrea Ng of PKR recently sought to assure the people that no decision had been made over the matter.
Yesterday, Wong clarified that the proposal to ban alcohol sales in Muslim-majority residential areas was merely a suggestion from some Muslim councillors.
“However, it did not receive unanimous support,” he said, adding that he intends to discuss the matter further with the mayor.
Ng had said that no discussion on expanding alcohol sales curb had been held with the state executive council.
Both leaders also emphasised that city council policies must align with the spirit of inclusivity.
‘Principled agreement’ in Ulu Chepor
Two days ago, Rumaizi stated that the Ipoh City Council approved a policy to conduct studies on requests from residents in Muslim-majority areas before enforcing alcohol sale bans.
He revealed that in 2020 and 2021, such a ban was implemented in the Manjoi area following widespread protests from residents.
He further disclosed that similar demands have arisen in Ulu Chepor, where the population consists entirely of Malay Muslims.
"In principle, we agree," he reportedly said.
However, Rumaizi added that other requests from Tambun, Rapat Setia, and Sungai Rokam are still under review.
He did not rule out the possibility of holding public hearings on the issue.
Policies must be transparent
In the Mandarin-language statement, Chung said any policy changes related to alcohol sales must undergo transparent and fair discussions, taking into account the rights of all ethnic groups.
"We must be vigilant. Manjoi has implemented an alcohol ban.
"Will other areas follow suit tomorrow?" he asked.
Chung also urged DAP to stop engaging in "political tricks,” protect the rights of non-Muslims and provide clarification to the public. - FMT
