Pejuang Dr M Not Involved In Uksb Case Contrary To Allegations
Pejuang has denied allegations of Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s involvement in the Ultra Kirana Sdn Bhd (UKSB) case.
In a statement prepared by the party’s counsel, Muhammad Rafique Rashid Ali, he said several prominent names were mentioned during the trial proceedings yesterday, but not Mahathir’s.
“It was clear that in the UKSB issue, the alleged ‘recipients’ of this money, according to the UKSB ledger was, Muhyiddin Yassin, Khairy Jamaluddin, Shafie Apdal, Hishamuddin Hussein, Reezal Merican Naina Merican, and Anifah Aman.
“Where was Mahathir’s name? It is clear that, as of now, like other allegations made by Umno leaders and the opposition, there is no evidence (when) reporting to the authorities, let alone any prosecution or ruling against Mahathir.
“What is being said by people like Lokman Adam and Razlan Rafii is nothing but a political ploy just for press sensationalism or to remain relevant,” Rafique said in a statement.
Rafique was referring to a statement issued by Umno supreme council member Razlan Rafii today where the latter accused Mahathir of selective prosecution during his time as prime minister.
UKSB is a company at the heart of former deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s corruption trial involving the Foreign Visa System (VLN).
Reezal was the deputy foreign minister when Zahid was overseeing VLN in his capacity as home minister at the time.
Khairy, Reezal, Hishammuddin and Anifah were recorded in UKSB payment ledgers and the MACC’s forensic report. Their names cropped up in court yesterday during the testimony of UKSB’s former administrative manager David Tan.
Tan also alleged that UKSB made payments totalling RM1.3 million to Bersatu president Muhyiddin between June and August 2018, when the latter was home minister.
Muhyiddin denied receiving any funds from UKSB and said he was recovering from cancer abroad when the alleged payments were made. However, he has said that he is willing to be investigated by the MACC.
Zahid is facing 33 charges of receiving bribes amounting to S$13.56 million (RM43 million) from UKSB for over four years from 2014 to 2018 as the then home minister to extend UKSB’s contract as the operator of a one-stop centre in China and the VLN system, as well as to maintain the contract agreement for UKSB to supply the VLN for the Home Ministry.
