Pdrm Calling Us In Is Continuous Intimidation Pkr Youth Chief

PKR Youth chief Adam Adli called PDRM’s constant questioning of protesters a form of continuous intimidation when speaking at Dang Wangi District police headquarters today.
Adam Adli, along with five other PKR Youth members, were called in for questioning over their price hike protest which took place at Pasar Seni last Friday.
The group’s lawyer, Kamil Munim, said the PKR Youth members were called in for questioning under Section 9(5) of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.
Adam referred to the questioning as a form of continuous coercion and cited the fact that PDRM had also called in Amanah leaders this morning, with a few others called in for questioning tomorrow.
“To be honest, I see this as a form of continuous intimidation, for just this morning a few of the Amanah members who were involved in the protest were also called in, and there are more people coming in tomorrow.
“Rightfully, PDRM should not just call in activists for questioning, but act on cases involving corruption, and wrongful use of power,” Adam said to members of the media outside Dang Wangi police station this evening.
Mahasiswa Keadilan president Syamil Luthfi also stated that their group had no intention to oppose the government when protesting the price hikes.
“The reason we protested was not to oppose the government but to stand in solidarity with the rakyat over the recent price hikes.
“We hope to be a voice for the rakyat to ensure that their voices are heard,” he said.
Meanwhile, Afiq Ayob stressed the fact that standing in solidarity with the rakyat is considered a crime in Malaysia.
“I think the thing we need to consider the most is the fact that standing in solidarity is considered a crime,” said the PKR youth member today.
The recent protest, which took place at Pasar Seni last Friday, was held to protest the recent inflation of basic needs.
PKR youth member, Farah Arianna, described how her fellow students would be forced to starve and get by on minimal food, especially with the price hike.
“I hope that the government could show sympathy and empathy towards us students as we don’t have a steady income and we would find it hard to adapt to the rise in prices.
“Some students may have been forced to starve or eat sparingly as they might not have been able to buy food with the recent price hike by the government,” she said. - Mkini
