Pas Linked Group Holds Another Flag Rally In Teluk Intan
A PAS-linked group held a flag rally in Teluk Intan, Perak, as a reaction to a cultural parade which saw some participants waving China’s flags there last month.
The Rakyat Patriotic Assembly was held at Menara Condong yesterday despite the police advising the public against attendance.
Its organiser is believed to be Nurhafizul Badrul Hisham, who is also the Teluk Intan PAS Youth chief.
In a Facebook post yesterday, he thanked all who attended the rally.
ADS“(The attendees) remained loyal to waving the Malaysian flag even though it was raining heavily.
“If this happened to the China flag gang, they would have run away,” Nurhafizul said in his caption.
He also hinted at another future gathering of this nature.
A group was created on Facebook for the rally on Nov 7.
However, only 43 people responded on the social media platform.
Earlier today, Perak PAS chief Razman Zakaria issued a statement claiming that the rally drew participants from Kedah, Penang, and Selangor.
At a previous counter rally, Razman appeared to have made racially charged comments.
Perak PAS chief Razman Zakaria“We ask those whose eyes are like this (while pointing to his eyes), skin like this (while pointing to his skin), and blood like ours, we must unite, this is the struggle we champion,” he said.
Remarking on the eyes of Chinese and others of East Asian descent is a common slur against such people.
No approval from venue owner
On Wednesday, Hilir Perak district police chief Ahmad Adnan Basri said the event did not receive permission from the venue owner - the Teluk Intan Municipal Council - as per Section 11 of the Peaceful Assembly Act.
He was also quoted by Bernama as warning that anyone participating in the rally would face strict action.
ADSRegardless, assemblies do not require a permit from the police.
On Oct 2, a group of individuals waved China’s flags at a Guan Gong cultural festival in Teluk Intan, which caused a public outcry.
The event organisers later apologised, explaining that China citizens, not Malaysians, had waved the flags.
A police investigation found that the organisers violated the terms of their permit by allowing foreigners to participate in the parade. - Mkini
