No Retirement When Championing Cause Pas Leader Backs Hadi
The PAS ulama council will continue to support the leadership of party president Abdul Hadi Awang amid uncertainties in local politics.
“There is no such thing as retirement when it comes to championing our cause. We will continue until our last breath unless Allah decides otherwise.
“For example, Ahmed Ismail Hassan Yassin continued championing the Palestinian struggle even when he was in a wheelchair,” said its chief Ahmad Yahaya in a statement today.
Ismail was the founder of Hamas and served as the movement’s first syura council chief. He died in 2004 during an attack by Israeli forces.
Two days ago, former PAS vice-president Mohd Nakhaie Ahmad chided party members for not asking Hadi to retire but instead idolising him.
“Hadi should have retired already but his followers are deifying him (angkat ke tahap dewa) instead.
“Nobody has the guts to tell him to do so,” he was reported as saying.
Muslim unity
Exalting Hadi’s stature, Ahmad (above) said the former’s vast knowledge of Islam is still needed to ensure the Islamic struggle remains relevant in Malaysia.
The Kedah PAS chief claimed that apart from spearheading the Islamic movement in Malaysia, many other similar movements outside of the country look up to Hadi’s leadership.
PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang“And we also uphold the idea to unite all Muslims as espoused by our party president.
“This is the main ingredient to achieve local political stability and outside of our country,” Ahmad said. - Mkini
