Pas Denies Issuing Directive Calling Outstation Voters To Change Addresses

PAS has denied issuing a statement calling on Kelantan and Terengganu state constituency action councils to urge out-of-state voters and party members working on the west coast to immediately change their voting constituencies.
The statement, which was purportedly issued by PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan, stated that this was to increase PAS and Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) chances of winning the Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Negeri Sembilan state elections next year.
“This requirement is needed because Selangor and Negeri Sembilan have become PAS’ focus areas in taking over the state leadership.
“Central PAS expects the action councils to take responsibility for transferring all out-of-state voters to fulfil the party’s wishes,” read the purported statement dated yesterday (Nov 30).
It added that PAS was confident of winning state seats in Kelantan and Terengganu for the upcoming state elections, following the party’s victory in securing over 40 MP in the 15th general election (GE15).
However, the statement was denied on PAS’ official Facebook page.
PAS won 49 parliamentary seats in GE15, under the PN banner – dominating most MP seats on the east coast of the peninsular.
Both PAS and Pakatan Harapan opted to not hold state elections concurrently with GE15 last month - leaving the elections for Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Penang, Kedah, Terengganu and Kelantan to be held next year.
PAS controls Kedah, Terengganu and Kelantan whereas Harapan controls Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Penang.
The five-year term for the six state assemblies will end in May. - Mkini
