PETALING JAYA: Several major Malaysian telecommunication providers – including CelcomDigi, Maxis, Unifi Mobile, U Mobile and Yes – have announced a new prepaid mobile Internet plan in response to the government’s recent announcement of the Pakej Perpaduan Prabayar Mudah Alih (Pakej Perpaduan).
The new prepaid mobile Internet plan will be available starting from Feb 28 until Dec 31 this year, and offers customers speeds of up to 3Mbps and 30GB data quota for a period of six months, at the cost of only RM30.
The new initiative replaces the current Pakej Remaja, which for the same price offered only three months validity, 20GB data quota and 1Mbps speed.
Like the Pakej Remaja, the RM30 pricing will be a one-off fee for six months of validity rather than a monthly subscription.
The Pakej Perpaduan is a government initiative aimed at providing support to underserved communities, with those who qualify being youths under 30, senior citizens aged 60 and above, veterans of uniformed bodies, persons with disabilities, and those under the B40 income group. Previously, only Malaysian citizens aged 21 years old and below were eligible for the Pakej Remaja.
The telco operators have expressed their committent to work closely with the government to ensure that all Malaysians have easy and affordable access to the internet.
For more details, those interested can check the websites of their telco service providers once the plans are launched on Feb 28 for more information. - Star
