(Bernama pic)PETALING JAYA: Pahang menteri besar Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail has called for calm after a KK Mart in Kuantan was petrol bombed today, just days after a similar attack on another KK Mart in Perak.
Wan Rosdy urged the public against taking matters into their own hands over the KK Mart controversy, involving the sale of socks bearing the embroidered word “Allah”.
He said he was not ruling out that the 5.14am attack today was aimed at creating uneasiness among the public.
The menteri besar urged the people to have full confidence in the ability of the authorities to take action.
Kuantan police said today that several items on display at the front of the the KK Mart in Sungai Isap were be set alight in the attack. Workers at the shop put out the fire with a fire extinguisher.
Police said the petrol bomb may have been thrown from a distance to avoid the attacker being shown on security cameras.
Earlier this week, a petrol bomb was also thrown at a KK Mart store in Bidor, Perak, at about the same time, but it did not explode.
The petrol bomb attacks have come after a campaign by Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh to call for a nationwide boycott of the chain. However, he has condemned the petrol bomb attack, urging all parties to leave the matter to the police. -FMT
