Overloaded Lorry Hit Divider And Tyres Burst Says Jpj
Kelantan JPJ says the lorry was overloaded while the driver’s licences had expired.KOTA BHARU: Road transport officials have denied allegations that its personnel were responsible for an incident in which a timber lorry’s tyres had burst during a weigh-in session at an enforcement station in Kuala Krai yesterday.
Kelantan JPJ director Hanif Yusabra Yusuf said the Laloh operations unit, while conducting a special operation with the Kuala Krai national anti-drug agency yesterday, had stopped the lorry which was coming from Gua-Musang as it was suspected to be overloaded.
He said the operation personnel ordered the driver to weigh in at the Laloh JPJ enforcement station.
“The driver, 45, drove through the main entrance (of the weigh–in station) in a reckless manner and hit the concrete divider in front of the station at 5.45pm. This caused damage to three of his back right tyres (which burst causing damage to the rims),” he said in a statement today.
Hanif said that during the weighing and documentation process, the driver made a video recording voicing his dissatisfaction with the personnel on duty. The video went viral on social media.
“The completed weighing process revealed that the lorry was carrying timber over the allowed weight.
“At the same time, the personnel issued a summons for an expired driving licence and vocational licence and for dangerous load. The driver left after the summons was issued,” he said.
Hanif said a police report has been lodged to deny the lorry driver’s allegations.
“The driver failed to cooperate with enforcement personnel who were carrying out their duty and intended to tarnish JPJ’s image by sharing the video on social media.
“JPJ would like to remind the public not to spread untrue videos without verification. We are handing this case to the police for further action,” he said.
