Opposition Rally May Spark Another Covid 19 Cluster Jelebu Mp

Jelebu MP Jalaluddin Alias has criticised this morning’s protest by opposition MPs over the suspension of Parliament, saying they risk spreading the Covid-19 virus to others.
“The actions of gathering at Dataran Merdeka this morning not only posed a risk to all the MPs, but also the authorities, media practitioners, and supporters who attended the rally.
“Plus, there are news reports saying there is an MP who was supposed to undergo quarantine after an aide was found to be positive with the Covid-19 Delta variant.
“So why is the MP still involved in the gathering after being exposed to the risk of contracting and spreading the virus?” Jalaluddin questioned the opposition in his statement today.
The Umno MP said while he understands the concerns of the opposition MPs, everyone should understand the present situation and reality about the Covid-19 pandemic as well.
“I would like to stress here that as an MP elected by the people, I too support and uphold the parliamentary democracy that is practiced here in Malaysia.
“But we must accept and understand the current situation and reality. We need to control and prevent the spread of Covid-19 in Parliament carefully,” he stressed.
Jalaluddin said most people on social media expressed their disappointment and anger over the opposition MPs' lack of SOP adherence while many others were staying at home during the ongoing movement control order (MCO).
“If there is dissatisfaction, use every medium available like social media to express opinions and criticisms.
“Don’t risk yourself and the public by gathering en masse like that,” he added.
This morning, more than 100 opposition MPs gathered at Dataran Merdeka in Kuala Lumpur to protest the suspension of Parliament.
The suspension was announced on Saturday by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, who cited the risk of Covid-19 after 11 cases were detected within Parliament grounds.
