Only 25 Pass 2020 Clp Exam But It S An Improvement
About 57% of the 1,656 candidates failed while none of those who passed managed a First Class or Second Class (Upper).PETALING JAYA: The results of the Certificate in Legal Practice (CLP) examination for 2020 saw a better performance compared with the previous year when only 399 candidates out of 1,656 law graduates obtained a full pass.
According to the results posted on the Legal Profession Qualifying Board (LPQB) website today, this constitutes about 25% of the number, a marked improvement compared with the 20% who passed in 2019.
Another 299 obtained conditional passes, which means they failed in one subject which they have to re-sit in order to qualify for the CLP, with the remainder or 57% of those who sat failing the examination entirely.
According to the list, 18 candidates passed with Second Class (Lower) with the rest obtaining Third Class. None of them were listed in the First Class or Second Class (Upper) categories, an indication of the board’s emphasis on quality.
The board had reminded the candidates that the results are final and no appeal nor application to review their detailed results will be entertained.
The LPQB said that 1,992 candidates had registered for the examination, but more than 300 did not sit for it in April after it was postponed from last year due to Covid-19 restrictions.
The results were originally scheduled to be announced in June but the board said the movement control order (MCO) had affected its schedule as the offices had to remain shut.
In another notice posted on the LPQB website, the board said the registration for the special examination for those with conditional passes will be open from today until the end of the month.
“The fee is RM1,000 and the examination is expected to be held in December subject to the approval by the National Security Council (MKN).”
Those with conditional passes can sit for their failed subjects a maximum of three times only.
For those who have failed, they can register to sit for all five papers for the 2021 examination which is also expected to be held later this year.
They are allowed to sit for a maximum of four times. - FMT
