Oct 5 Case Management For Rosmah S Bid To Set Aside Conviction
Rosmah Mansor has filed an appeal to the Court of Appeal against her conviction and sentence in her corruption case linked to the Sarawak schools’ solar energy project. (Bernama pic)PUTRAJAYA: The Court of Appeal has fixed case management on Oct 5 for Rosmah Mansor’s appeal to set aside her conviction and sentence in connection with the RM1.25 billion Sarawak rural schools’ solar energy project.
Deputy public prosecutor Poh Yin Tinn said he was informed of the date when Rosmah’s solicitors, Akberdin & Co, extended a sealed copy of their client’s notice of appeal early this week.
Rosmah filed the appeal on Sept 2, a day after the Kuala Lumpur High Court sentenced her to 10 years’ jail and a RM970 million fine, in default another 10 years’ jail.
The wife of former prime minister Najib Razak had earlier failed in her application to recuse trial judge Zaini Mazlan from presiding over her case.

Her bid to recuse him was on grounds linked to the leak of an alleged draft judgment in her case.
Zaini found Rosmah guilty of all three counts of corruption after ruling that the prosecution had proven its case beyond a reasonable doubt.
Rosmah, 70, solicited RM187.5 million from former Jepak Holdings Sdn Bhd managing director Saidi Abang Samsudin through her former aide, Rizal Mansor, as an inducement to help the company secure the solar project.
She also received bribes amounting to RM5 million from Saidi, through Rizal, at Seri Perdana in Putrajaya on Dec 20, 2016.
She received another RM1.5 million from Saidi at Jalan Langgak Duta on Sept 7, 2017.
For each of the three offences, Zaini sentenced Rosmah to 10 years in jail. The sentences will run concurrently, meaning she will only serve 10 years.
She will serve another 10 years should she fail to pay the RM970 million, reportedly the largest imposed on a convicted person to date.
However, Zaini allowed Rosmah’s application to stay the execution of the sentence, pending her appeal to the appellate court. - FMT
