Oct 28 To Hear Stay Bid In Forfeiture Suit Against Baling Mp S Family
The Kuala Lumpur High Court has fixed Oct 28 to hear an application to temporarily stay the nearly RM16 million Tabung Haji-linked forfeiture suit against the family of Baling MP Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim.
Judge Muhammad Jamil Hussin fixed the date following an application by the family’s legal team pending the completion of Abdul Azeez’s corruption trial at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court.
This was confirmed by the family’s counsel Fahmi Musikin when met by the media after proceedings this afternoon.
“The almost RM16 million forfeiture suit against Abdul Azeez’s family is in relation to Tabung Haji savings accounts.
“The application (by Abdul Azeez’s family) seeks to stay the whole proceedings (forfeiture suit) pending disposal of the main (criminal) charges against Abdul Azeez before the Sessions Court.
“The High Court fixed Oct 28 to hear the stay application (by Abdul Azeez’s family),” Fahmi said.
The lawyer added that the prosecution’s main forfeiture suit against Abdul Azeez’s family was filed in September last year while the family filed the stay bid in January this year.
According to the online cause list, the forfeiture suit named five individuals and a company as respondents.
The respondents are Azeez’s wife Khadijah Mohd Noor; the couple’s children Mohamed Khairul Azman, Mohamed Khairul Anwar, Khaleeda Azeera and Khaleeda Azwa; and a company named Azeera Management Consultants (M) Sdn Bhd.
Deputy public prosecutor Nik Haslinie Hashim appeared for the prosecution during proceedings before Jamil this afternoon.
On Jan 16 last year at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court, Abdul Azeez was charged with three counts of allegedly receiving bribes totalling RM5.2 million involving road projects in Perak and Kedah and nine counts of money laundering involving more than RM140 million.
On the same day, his brother Abdul Latif was charged with two counts of allegedly abetting Abdul Azeez to commit the alleged offences.
The two brothers' criminal trial begun on Aug 19 this year and is still ongoing. - Mkini
