(Facebook pic)PETALING JAYA: The High Court in Klang has fixed Oct 11 for case management of a suit against a local council and two government agencies for allegedly abusing a dog during an animal control operation.
A member of the legal team representing the two animal rights groups which filed the suit, said the plaintiffs will have to update the court at the next case management on the status of service of the writ and statement of claim on the defendants.
“The suit has been fixed for case management via e-review before deputy registrar Nur Azura Murah on Oct 11,” Joshua Wu told FMT.
The two animal rights groups filed a suit against the Klang Municipal Council (MPK), the Selangor veterinary services department and the animal welfare board on Sept 8 for allegedly abusing a dog during an animal control operation.

Rajesh Nagarajan, of Lawyers for Animal Rights, said the suit was filed by Malaysian Animal Welfare Association chairman S Mukunnan and the treasurer of Persatuan Pencinta Hak Asasi Haiwan Ulu Langat, M Ravi Shankar, at the Klang High Court.
Rajesh said the present condition of the dog was unknown.
MPK drew flak in August after a 19-second video purportedly showed a dog being abused after it was caught by council enforcement officers.
The video, which went viral, showed the dog bleeding through its snout while being held on a leash. Several onlookers could be heard scolding the enforcement officers for hurting the animal. - FMT
