Nurul On Her Quit Decision I Ve Said All I Wanted To Say
KUALA LUMPUR: Permatang Pauh MP Nurul Izzah Anwar says she does not intend to explain her decision to quit her party post
"I have already said what I wanted to say and I will not issue any more statements
"Let today be about the kids," said Nurul Izzah who was at the Kiwanis Club's board members installation 2018-2019 ceremony on Saturday (Dec 22)
Her father, PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, issued a statement, on Friday (Dec 21) saying he was standing by her decision to step down as PKR vice-president
He said was completely in keeping with her character as someone who always had the courage to stand up for her ideals and beliefs
Anwar said he and Nurul Izzah had discussed her intention to step down at length
"It is not in my place to divulge details, but I do know that with the pace of political developments (having) been relentless for the last nine months, she is sick and tired of the deception and machinations of those who are far more interested in playing politics than focusing on helping the rakyat they purport to serve," Anwar said in a statement
He gave the example of the people's disillusionment caused by the recent switching of parties by MPs to save their "political skins" or to "shore up power for nefarious ends"
Nurul Izzah, who announced her decision to resign party posts on Dec 17, however, said she would remain a member of the parliamentary backbench committed to reforms
She also said she would no longer serve in the federal government in any capacity.Star
