Now Its Time To Shape Up
MCA and MIC have blocked BN dissolution in a friendly meeting yesterday. Not only that, both have also given their nod and understanding to Umno-Pas cooperation as a matter of between two parties which will not bring any adverse impact on the coalition pact.
So, life goes on for BN.
As the Opposition, Barisan Nasional can't afford any more batterings. After Gerakan, MyPPP, Sarawak and Sabah component parties abandoned the ship, BN is left with Umno, MCA and MIC. Keeping the post-Independence pact intact, the march must be fortified.
The Umno-Pas merger augurs well for BN. With success in Cameron Highlands and Semenyih by-elections, BN could at least boost the image of still being relevant to the people, and being relevant must come with good spirit and trust.
Umno president Zahid Hamidi has laid down the framework of the Malay unity without jettisoning the paramount objective in making BN formidable again. Malay unity is not about racism, it is more towards getting their rights attended to without any intention to grab it from the Chinese and Indians.
Perhaps Malay unity is more workable now after seeing the Chinese votes went to DAP and Pakatan Harapan in the last general election, leading to vociferous aftermath reaction which insinuated that they (the Chinese) have lost faith in MCA.
But MCA has a strong role to play. With proper re-engineering to its politics, the Chinese can be attracted again. There is a need for MCA, Umno, MIC and Pas to sit down together and formulate a strategy to regain Malaysians' support.
The 'Malay and Muslim unity' between Umno and Pas will also help bring the non-Malay votes, gradually. As GE15 is still a long way to go, their mercenaries must be put in proper from now on, as what the PH parties did after GE13.
BN must recollect the confidence level lost over the past few years. Camerons and Semenyih have proven it. Rantau is another avenue to prove this.
The common fight is against the injustice in Pakatan government. With more weaknesses and hiccups shown by its administration, BN will regain that confidence level again. It has ruled for 61 years and proved its worthiness.
With rising objections to Putrajaya, they should be able to leverage on it.
