PETALING JAYA: Kluang Amanah revealed that no final decision has been made yet regarding which party will represent the unity coalition in the upcoming Mahkota state by-election next month.
Kluang Amanah chief Zuhan Zain told FMT leaders of the parties in the federal government have yet to discuss the matter.
So, how could there already be a decision? said Zuhan, in response to Barisan Nasional chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announcing yesterday that a BN candidate would be contesting the Mahkota seat to represent the unity government.
Zahid, who is also Umno president, had warned other unity government coalition partners not to demand to contest the state seat.
Zuhan said there is no unity government set up at the Johor state level.
“We are merely allies, coexisting harmoniously under different roofs.
“Zahid should promptly advise Onn Hafiz Ghazi, who is Johor menteri besar and state Umno chairman, to convene a meeting between (state-level) Pakatan Harapan and BN leaders to discuss this issue without delay.
Let’s discuss and not jump the gun. There’s no need for knee-jerk reactions. We’re just small-time leaders from the grassroots.
Kluang Amanah had previously lobbied for the Mahkota seat, which was held by the late Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain of Umno, prompting brickbats from several Umno leaders.
Amanah Youth executive council member Fadhli Umar Aminolhuda later said he was determined to push for the candidate to come from their party as the Johor government was not a unity government.
On Monday, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu reminded the party’s Kluang division that the national leadership would decide on election candidates. - FMT
