He said such an approach would guarantee the harmony of a multi-racial, religious and cultural society especially in Sabah.
Hajiji said Sabah is a state with 33 indigenous groups that speak 50 languages and 80 ethnic dialects.
"It is very important for us to maintain and foster harmony and unity within the state and within the multi-ethnic and multi-religious country", he said at the closing ceremony of the Islamic Affairs Management Convention at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) today.
Present was Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Hajiji said the State government will continue to implement religious and spiritual programmes by allocating a total of RM176.16 million this year for operational expenses.
"Religious differences are not an obstacle for us to live in harmony and peace. It will also not be the cause for us to live in enmity for generations.
"Even in Islam, the basis is peace, well-being and happiness in life."
Hajiji said the event was able to shed light on some issues related to religious affairs, as well as provide a precise understanding of Islamic affairs among the religious agencies.
He added the event would also improve the management of Islamic religious affairs in Malaysia, including Sabah.
"The management of Islamic affairs is different because its role is not just administration but also as a source of reference and guidance in the life of Muslims at all times.
"This matter is in line with the core of Madani Malaysia and the goals of the Sabah Maju Jaya Direction Policy which emphasises the development and empowerment of human capital to embody human creativity and commendable morals." - NST
