No Vindictiveness In Ge15 Candidate Selection Says Zahid
BN chairperson Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has promised there will be no vindictiveness in selecting candidates for the upcoming general election.
Speaking to nearly 3,000 leaders and members of BN component parties, he said those chosen to be candidates for the election would be “the best of the best”.
“In bringing new faces (Umno first-time candidates), we have discussed among the Top Five namely the president, deputy president, and the three vice-presidents. We are confident the choice of candidates is a wise decision and without taking vengeance against any individual.
“This has been proven at the Malacca and Johor state elections, except where there are those who reject the candidate by taking certain actions outside of political norms.
“We consider those isolated cases. Nevertheless, we are confident the candidate line-up is the best of the best, and our hope is to create political stability in this country,” he said at the BN rally in Bagan Datuk, Perak, this evening.
It is understood that Zahid’s speech is referring to Umno leaders who disagreed with his decisions, particularly the decision to withdraw support for then prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin and to pressure for a snap election.
Meanwhile, Zahid who is the incumbent MP for Bagan Datuk, said BN cannot use its victories in recent by-elections and state elections as a benchmark for what to expect in the 15th general election.
“Don’t use victories in Malacca and Johor as benchmarks for our victory in the GE15. Don’t use our experience with a 7-0 score in by-elections as a benchmark.
“I am grateful when we won the by-elections and state elections.
“But by working hard and working smart, I believe whatever situations may arise, our spirit in BN is exceptional and success awaits us,” he said to rapturous applause from the audience. - Mkini
