No Sympathy For Mat Rempit Perished In Illegal Race For They Got What They Deserved
DIE doing what you love.
That seems to be the sentiment of an X user who sarcastically opined that Mat Rempit (illegal street racers) killed in an accident were pursuing their deepest passions before expiring.
Referring to Mat Rempit who met their grisly end in an accident purportedly on the Guthrie Highway, Effi The Source Shaharuddin (@10befiend) sarcastically thanked these road artists for decorating the highway with “meat crayons”.
It referenced a post containing a dash cam video showing about a dozen Mat Rempit riding recklessly at high speeds.
Some way ahead, a crash had caused quite of few of these stunt riders to be sprawled along the highway alongside debris from their smashed rides which also caused some vehicles to ram into each other in a bid to avoid the bodies.
It would appear that there is little public sympathy for these daredevil bikers with one equating them with younger basikal lajak (modified ‘brakeless’ bicycles) riders.

One commenter simply remarked that he would not even bother to stop to lend a helping hand, underlining public sentiment towards these road menaces.

In fact, most of the sympathy went towards the car drivers who smashed their vehicles in a bid to avoid the prone bodies on the ground.

Other commenters highlighted the massive mess such an accident creates.

Similar sentiments accompanied the original post containing the dash cam videos with sympathy again in short supply.

Some wondered why the cops had not mounted regular road blocks given the stretch of road is popular among illegal racers.

Quite a few commenters mocked the oft-heard lament that the victims were “good kids”.

Of course, whenever the issue of Mat Rempit is discussed, the ethnicity of these riders is inevitably raised. Why is this a uniquely Malay problem, they wondered?

Regardless of the race of these wrongdoers, the question that needs to be raised is when meaningful action will be finally taken to address this issue.
Can’t the public demand that the book be thrown at these offenders? After all, they are endangering the lives of other road users.
Virtually nobody applauds their antics as typified by the scores of disgusted comments. One commenter pointed out that there would less oxygen wasted with these people gone from the face of the planet.

Surely, making an example out of some with heavy sentences, including time behind bars, would be a deterrent.
