No Reason To Halt Probe Against Dap Members Say Cops
(FMT) – Bukit Aman has denied a claim by DAP secretary general Lim Guan Eng that it will stop the arrest of party members over alleged links to the defunct Liberation of Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).
Anti-terrorism chief Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay questioned how the politician had obtained such information.
“I never issued a statement that we will stop the probe.
“Why should we stop the investigations? Is it because of DAP that we have to stop? No.
“We will continue to investigate if there is sufficient evidence,” Ayob told reporters today.
Lim was reported to have said that police had informed him they will not arrest any more DAP leaders.
Two DAP assemblyman – Melaka exco member and Gadek assemblyman G Saminathan and Seremban Jaya assemblyman P Gunasekaran – are among the 12 individuals arrested so far.
Ayob said the arrests were not targeted at DAP politicians. “They are not related to DAP, PAS, PKR, Barisan Nasional and others but were done because they were involved in promoting LTTE.
“We do not distinguish who and which political party they are from. If there is sufficient evidence, we will arrest,” he said.
He said it was not an offence to take pictures with LTTE supporters as the police investigation was based on involvement with LTTE.
He was responding to calls to arrest Human Resources Minister M Kula Segaran after pictures of him and LTTE supporters went viral on social media.
Ayob also said that police are monitoring the movement of Indian politician Senthamizhan Seeman, who is said to be an LTTE supporter and frequently comes to Malaysia.
He did not rule out the possibility of applying to the Immigration Department to ban Seeman from entering the country.
“It will depend on our investigation on how far Seeman is involved,” he said.
