No Promises On Facilities For Kg Papan Folk Clarifies Rep

Pandamaran assemblyperson Tony Leong has clarified that Kampung Papan residents will be offered alternative housing at a discounted price, but the state government has made no promises on the provision of any facilities.
He said this in response to a statement by Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) deputy chairperson S Arutchelvan, which, among others, said the Selangor government will provide the affected residents with discounted apartments with “full facilities”.
In a statement today, Leong said the Selangor government has asked the developer to provide five to seven acres (2.0 to 2.8ha) of land for a state-owned company to build houses in accordance with the “Rumah Idaman” affordable housing concept, measuring 1,000 to 1,050 sq ft (92.9 to 97.5 sq m) per unit.
“A total of 181 eligible settler families will be able to purchase the units at a 50 percent discount from the market price.
“The state government has not promised to provide full or any facilities,” he said in the statement.
ADSThe DAP assemblyperson also extended his gratitude to Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari and housing and culture exco Borhan Aman Shah for their assistance in negotiating better terms for the residents with the developers.
Yesterday, a meeting was held between Leong, Kampung Papan representatives, PSM, and Selangor state housing and culture exco Borhan Aman Shah to discuss the fate of the residents who were served eviction notices earlier this week.
The notice issued on Oct 21 demanded that the residents vacate their homes by the end of the week to make way for a demolition scheduled from Oct 27 onwards.
After the Selangor government stepped in, Leong advised residents to stay home during the demolition dates to avoid their houses being torn down, as developers have agreed to only demolish vacant houses in the area.
This advisory came after Kampung Papan residents and PSM staged a protest in front of the Selangor State Secretariat Building to hand over a memorandum to the menteri besar, urging him to intervene and halt the demolition of their homes. - Mkini
